TCCA welcomes new EC focus on digital communications as support for public safety spectrum

Logo idea 121 July 2014:

The TCCA welcomes the stated commitment of new European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker to make much better use of the great opportunities offered by digital technologies.

In his New Start for Europe document, President Juncker states: “…. we will need to have the courage to break down national silos in telecoms regulation, in copyright and data protection legislation, in the management of radio waves and in the application of competition law. …  Enhancing the use of digital technologies and online services should become a horizontal policy, covering all sectors of the economy and of the public sector.”

Emergency services have an increasing demand for access to mobile broadband data services for their PPDR operations. The establishment of mission critical mobile broadband data services ideally requires a frequency band located below 1 GHz. An opportunity is opening at 700MHz. This band is today inter alia used by terrestrial broadcasting services, but is expected to be shared or ultimately fully re-allocated to mobile service at the World Radiocommunications Conference in November 2015 (WRC-15).

NEW DATES AND VENUE ANNOUNCED – Critical Communications World Will Now Take Place From 20 – 22 May 2014, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

Image

Due to the ongoing political instability in Thailand, we have taken the decision with the TCCA to move Critical Communications World 2014 out of Bangkok to the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. This venue can fully accommodate the event’s conference and exhibition requirements and the dates will be 20-22 May 2014.

This decision has not been taken lightly and we have considered all options to determine the best course of action. Ensuring the best possible attendance at CCW is our priority and it is evident that this will not be the case if we remain in Bangkok with the ongoing disruption and uncertainty around security. By moving  to Singapore we will remain in the ASEAN region, in a more stable environment conducive to hosting a show the scale of CCW.

Phi Kidner, CEO of TCCA has made the following statement,

“It is clear that we need to move away from Bangkok. Moving such a large event at this stage in the planning schedule is not easy, but I am confident that IIR have secured the best alternative available. Critical Communications World will remain in the ASEAN region and in the same time frame. Despite the inconvenience, we are successfully forging ahead with the event’s marketing process and we will continue to make it another great success. I look forward to seeing you and your colleagues in Singapore.”

Thank you for your understanding.

How do you judge a conference? | Critical Communications Europe 2014

How do you judge a conference?

By the quality of its speakers.

Despite all the hard work that goes into organising and running an event, any success is down to the willingness of members of the Critical Communications community to share their work and inspire their peers. We are very grateful and proud of all of our speakers who will be bringing the conference to life in Amsterdam. Below is just a small preview of who will be stepping up to the lectern at the NH Grand Hotel Kraznapolsky during Critical Communications Europe.

Industry event to present complete capabilities of critical communications industry

Wednesday 17 April 2013, London, UK

TETRA continues to dominate the critical communications market. Data released by IMS Research (now part of IHS Inc.) shows that 2012 is the third consecutive year for record shipments by manufacturers of TETRA equipment. The technology is being deployed in more regions than ever before, and showing strong acceptance in a growing number of vertical markets.

Reflecting the on-going popularity of the TETRA standard, the industry’s annual Critical Communications World conference and exhibition is expecting a record number of attendees and exhibitors. This year the event takes place in Paris from 21-24 May 2013.

“TETRA is a robust and highly specified standard that has proven its worth time and time again to its users, and to the wider public who depend on critical communications for their safety and security,” said Phil Kidner, CEO of the TETRA and Critical Communications Association (TCCA). “The established leader throughout the world, there are still new markets opening up. These include North America, where we are seeing TETRA being adopted for the first time in the utilities and public transport sectors.” (more…)
