Nearly 200 people gathered in New York City for TETRA Congress Americas to learn more about TETRA technology and hear from North American mission-critical communications users who have deployed the technology.
The FCC and Industry Canada both granted approval for the TETRA standard’s use in the United States and Canada, respectively, in 2011.
One theme among the speakers was the use of data applications available with the European Telecommunications and Standards Institute (ETSI) standard. Many users included details on data features, such as a GPS check-in feature for remote workers, CAD control of a radio system, text messaging and others, that allow them to more efficiently run their businesses. In addition, although many vendors are targeting non-public-safety users, public-safety applications were noted in many presentations. (more…)

Interview With New Jersey Transit
In preparation for the event, Andy Schwartz from New Jersey Transit has shared a preview of his presentation – please see the full interview below. By joining us at the event you will be able to hear the full case study which takes place 14th November at 12.30pm.
Why was TETRA the right choice for your organization?
NJ TRANSIT’s procurement process was driven by business requirements for a data-centric system where standards adherence was important. We did not specify a technology. When the entire process was completed, the award went to a vendor with a TETRA-based system. We believe this was the best choice for NJ TRANSIT given the maturity of TETRA and its rich feature set, the data capability, the standard interface (PEI) for 3rd party applications, and the competitive environment for terminals.

Largest statewide public transportation system relies on TETRA land mobile radio network to service Super Bowl XLVIII
Jersey City, NJ — November 5, 2013 — Following a contract award in 2012, PowerTrunk, Inc., the North American subsidiary of Teltronic S.A.U., a major global TETRA vendor, started supplying and commissioning a 800 MHz TETRA network for NJ TRANSIT’s replacement Bus Radio System through a U.S.-based systems integrator. The network went live in early 2013 with partial coverage in the Newark, New Jersey area and is currently being used in a limited capacity by NJ TRANSIT staff as the system continues to be built-out. This is the first commercial TETRA network in the United States to become operational.
The PowerTrunk TETRA network provides NJ TRANSIT with the first mission-critical land mobile radio system in the United States that has sufficient data capacity to support the voice and data needs of transit operations over a single LMR network. The network significantly enhances the safety and efficiency of existing NJ TRANSIT operations because it (1) delivers carrier-grade speech quality, (2) carries data services on a system with mission-critical reliability, and (3) offers higher data capacity which enables advanced data-centric applications.
TETRA is now being deployed in the Americas as THE secure radio choice for the Transit, Airport and Utilities communities. Are you looking to find out more about TETRA’s specific technical attributes and benefits?
